Once upon a time, generations ago
The world spilled with people with nowhere to go They filled up the land so built upwards instead And struggled to solve how they all could be fed Some wanted more and some left with less Some only cared for how others should dress Numbers kept growing, the world stayed the same Some worried this spelt the end of the game Divided in thought, united in space Some seek to share, some seek to displace Some loved the growth for filling their coffers For fueling the freedom that free finance offers Free to restrict any changes that threaten To curtail the growth, to adapt to the lesson While the world changed, the people would not Cooling their houses as the outside grew hot They needed for nothing, but wanted for more Kept blind to rest rest, kept ignoring the poor Blind to the curtains now starting to fall As the oceans too grew, and the land shrunk too small Til the people all fled, leaving nowhere to run The tide crept on in, a new future come To break down the stage, the end of the act Unable to hide from the threat now a fact The problems then pressing, they fought and they blamed The problem division compressed and inflamed Who then should solve with no one at fault The world needed action, it needed revolt Enough with the blame, enough shirking guilt Those in control made the world that they built This war was new, unlike others before Its fronts universal, respecting no law It fought against structures, it fought against rule Fought with no care if its actions were cruel Any could join so all were involved No one was safe and none were absolved All targets were valid, for each side to hit Oh, the crimes by old laws all sides did commit People so packed into over-cramped places The dearth of compassion for massed unnamed faces A surplus of death wherever you’d glance Full world’s worth of life never given a chance When the war ended, if ever it did We learned to expose the things the past hid Learned to control, to change and adapt Avoiding the danger where reason is trapped The lessons retained now ingrained to deter Mere thousands remaining where millions once were.
