It’s a strange turn of phrase that seems out of place
That “I couldn’t imagine”, thoughts couldn’t keep pace While confusingly using the expression to show care As if ignorance is empathy with unwillingness to share When did you try to discover you couldn’t? Did you fail to begin, just uncover you wouldn’t? What limits are placed on the world in your mind? With what chains have you shackled your wonder confined? So that “I couldn’t imagine” is not failed attempt But a lack of potential, an impossible event And all suffer uniquely, and suffer alone Where no one can feel the pain that they’ve known Is it so rude to try to understand another’s plight? Belittling implying within your mind their pain’s in sight? To comprehend and so confer support compassion gives That you’ve spent the time to try to sense the life another lives Work-out your brain to beyond comfort zones Slip it into some shoes that someone else owns Let it loose, let it roam, to lead countless lives Where you could imagine, where imagination thrives
