This frog that finds its home in me does not provide a name
Refusing yet to speak and forcing me to do the same Webbed and padded paws suctioned tight against my throat If I dare to try to talk it will croak its warning note Its blockage forms a well that fills a wetland in its wake That splutters up to dripping eyes no clearing is to shake It soaks in strangled silence that it does not wish to leave Voice to match the moment as another to bereave It does not always hibernate where most I wish it not Often off in unknown lands no sign nor track to spot Yet always there when worst to strike, when worst to present tense When worst to force me mute as if with some sadistic sense Precisely when I need to speak, console another’s grief Or shed or share my own and find a morsel of relief My amphibian companion will not sanction letting go More comfortable in silence, no wrong words to worse the woe
