Imagine with me, if you can
A world of laws laid down by man There’s laws for this, and laws for that, Laws deciding how to act But where the laws will leave a gap A moral code keeps all intact As long as all will keep it true The code will hold for me and you Then in this place your mind’s eye makes Consider if this moral shakes That someone in there sees a hole Tears it open, breaks control Sees a gain, ignoring cost Cares not for what the future’s lost As long as none more break the mold Believe the problem won’t unfold Imagine on a fishing trip Aboard a reckless fishing ship To catch a little extra fish A little more than laws would wish What difference do a few fish make? A tiny drop from what’s to take Is nothing on the scale of things That time will heal this minor sting If one should do it, why not more? A little loss from greater store When others see the hole explored Seek to gain the same reward The little grows and can’t be healed The fishing grows with more afield Til stopping not a fisher’s choice The fishes lack gives them a voice As soon as one ignores the ruse Then others chase the breaks they choose If they can cheat, then I should too A fairness shaken out from true So what is sought the hunts depletes And winning more leads to defeat As greed will show the balance weak And what we have we cannot keep
