Older than nations, than laws and than kings Through fire and farming and drought did survive Through towns and through cities that elsewhere arrive A pocket of past, a time capsule glen To travel from now to a forgotten when The last of its kind whose future concerned The rest turned to timber or to ashes burned The timbermill towns, their task incomplete A tree genocide: old-growth forest to sheet The last of the land yet there left to destroy To delay timber-workers the end of employ Delaying the empty of towns with one role Kept living by murder - shredding old forests whole No attempt to branch out, their industry set Trees to be felled sell the timber they get
