In a world assuming compromise,
We ask much more than what we seek Knowing balance evens out We strive for higher than the peak Because if we don’t fight for it, We’ll fall short of where we aim, And knowing everyone’s involved We are forced to play this game Those that try play other games Are by and large ignored Though better treated than the other side: Universally abhorred Then as each game is played and lost, For no one can ever win The target must keep rising From the distance they begin When challenged for the reasons We wish for what we say we want We’re forced to form defenses Support false target that we’ve got To make them seem defensible We must believe the thoughts we share To swing more to support us Make the target appear fair As we go through all these motions Place the method in control Losing sight of what we first had sought, Chasing means but not the goal So why are we surprised to find Extremes become the norm Who play this game of balance Refuse to move towards reform
